Your Wi-Fi Can Look Fine and Still Have Gaps: Meet SignalPath Wi-Fi Audit

A Wi-Fi network can appear to be working normally while still suffering from weak coverage, channel congestion, configuration problems, or security concerns. Users may be connected, but that does not necessarily mean the network is performing well—or that every important setting has been reviewed.

SignalPath Wi-Fi Audit is an Android app from First Step Solutions designed to make practical Wi-Fi assessments easier to perform, understand, document, and share.

A More Organized Way to Assess Wi-Fi

SignalPath guides users through a structured assessment process. Instead of collecting disconnected screenshots and handwritten notes, you can organize the work by:

  • Organization

  • Wi-Fi network or SSID

  • Floor

  • Room, hallway, or other space

Your selected scope follows you through the app, helping ensure that test results, signal maps, and reports are associated with the correct location.

SignalPath is intended for networks you own or are explicitly authorized to assess.

Review Security and Network Health

SignalPath uses information available to an Android device to perform a collection of Wi-Fi security and performance checks.

Depending on the device, network, permissions, and selected tests, SignalPath can help evaluate areas such as:

  • Advertised Wi-Fi encryption

  • Connected-network protection

  • Channel interference and overlap

  • Signal strength and propagation

  • Wi-Fi channel width

  • Band availability

  • Connected link quality

  • DNS health and redundancy

  • Internet validation

  • Default-route availability

  • Private DNS status

  • IPv6 readiness

  • Potential management-service exposure

  • Guest-network segmentation indicators

  • Client-isolation indicators

Results are separated into understandable findings, supporting evidence, potential impact, and recommended next steps.

SignalPath also distinguishes between security-oriented and performance-oriented checks, making it easier to understand what each result means.

Understand What the Scores Represent

A high score can be encouraging, but it is important to understand what was actually tested.

SignalPath clearly identifies how many supported checks were completed. Security and Health scores summarize the tests included in that saved assessment—they are not a guarantee that every possible network condition was evaluated.

This added context helps prevent a limited test from creating a false sense of confidence.

The Free version includes eight essential checks. SignalPath Pro makes 17 additional Android-supported security and performance checks available, providing broader visibility into potential findings.

Create Wi-Fi Signal Heatmaps

SignalPath can also help visualize Wi-Fi signal coverage across a room or hallway.

The guided mapping process walks the user through two primary steps:

  1. Define the perimeter of the space.

  2. Walk through the space to paint the signal heatmap.

Mapped areas are colored according to the observed Wi-Fi signal level, while areas that have not been surveyed remain clearly identified.

For locations with an existing floor plan, SignalPath can optionally place collected heatmap information over the floor plan. Rooms can be mapped individually, allowing additional spaces to be added over time without replacing previously saved map data.

Floor plans are optional, so users can still create standalone room and hallway heatmaps when one is unavailable.

Save Assessment History

Every completed test run creates a saved result. This makes it possible to review previous findings, compare assessments from different spaces, and return to earlier work.

Saved information remains organized under the appropriate organization, network, floor, and space. Heatmaps can also be revisited so additional rooms may be mapped later.

This history can be useful after:

  • Access-point changes

  • Network equipment upgrades

  • Office renovations

  • Configuration adjustments

  • Reported performance problems

  • Security-policy changes

Produce Professional PDF Reports

SignalPath Pro can turn selected test results and heatmaps into professional PDF reports.

Before generating a report, users can choose:

  • Which test results to include

  • Which rooms to show

  • Which heatmaps to include

  • Whether to apply custom report branding

Generated reports can be viewed, saved, printed, or shared from the device. A detailed sample report is available inside the app so Free users can see the type of deliverable available with SignalPath Pro.

Local-First by Design

SignalPath is designed around local device storage. Organizations, Wi-Fi observations, saved audits, floor plans, heatmaps, and reports are not uploaded to First Step Solutions as part of the normal assessment workflow.

Android permissions are requested only when required for features such as nearby Wi-Fi scanning or camera-assisted mapping. SignalPath does not require users to create a separate SignalPath account.

Who Is SignalPath For?

SignalPath may be useful for:

  • Small-business owners

  • IT consultants

  • Managed service providers

  • Internal IT teams

  • Network administrators

  • Technically experienced property managers

  • Anyone responsible for an authorized Wi-Fi environment

It is especially helpful when you need a repeatable way to collect observations and explain the results to someone who may not work with wireless networking every day.

Start With a Free Wi-Fi Assessment

SignalPath’s Free version provides the core tools needed to create a scope, run essential tests, review findings, and begin evaluating Wi-Fi conditions.

When broader test coverage, multiple organizations, saved professional reports, or client-ready deliverables are needed, SignalPath Pro provides a permanent upgrade inside the app.

SignalPath Wi-Fi Audit is developed by First Step Solutions to help make authorized Wi-Fi assessments more structured, understandable, and useful.
